I know it will be hard for people to adjust to this car, it was for me, but I fell in love with it and so far in 4 days of ownership have no regrets. I guess that is the benefit of trying it at 12 AM for the hell of it. It's an easy work around and here in Colorado, you rarely get the opportunity to be so laid back heading into the mountains. I know if I went tip or sport mode it wouldn't have done that, but in an attempt to gain efficiency the car was making me a little crazy. Now not everything can be 100% so after acquring this car the only thing that has botherd me is that while on cruise going up the mountains in D the tranny was shifting a lot. I am a big road tripper and the things they have done really impress me in the regard that this car will be even better for those long trips than the B5 was.

Some of the little things they have done with the new b6 have a huge impact on me and what I like to do. I will agree that it can be argued that VW has taken some cues from their Japanese rivals, but remember, VW is in the business of building cars to sell them and make a profit. I think this is great because I too tend to like to have a big bottle of water on those long drives. Or a 750 of nigh train, whichever you prefer. VW has recognized the trend of nalgene and other water bottles and increased the size of the front door pockets which can hold about a litre sized bottle. The front cup holders are great for "normal" size drinks but if anyone has a large or supersize type cup, well I guess maybe the idea is you shouldn't be driving with it. The cup holders are still a struggle for VW, but that isn't huge to me.

Around the curves the B6 has less feeling of body roll compared to the old B5 (prior to mods of course) and the 2.0T has very little turbo lag compared to the 1.8T. The controls are easy to reach, the addition of steering wheel controls for the radio and MFD are a great plus, especially for what is basically a base model car. On the highway the car is much quieter than the B5 was and we both felt that the car reminded us more of the A6 than the B5. Right away I made note of the speed sensitive steering, this was no problem for me as I had this in my A6, but I knew it would be a struggle for folks transitioning from a B5 to a B6. I am a long time clutch driver, love the manuals, but with my commute and me wanting my fiance to be able to drive the car made it wasy to look at this car since the only option right now is Tiptronic. We already knew what color we wanted, Deep Black with the black interior. Came back on Saturday to test drive a b6. We went home, mulled over what we wanted to do. The premium sound system sounds better than the old monsoon in my former B5 and was close in quality to the Bose Symphony II system I had in my A6. The trunk, as usual, is enourmous, opens quite easy and is an auto open. The front and rear seats have thigh supports which add to the comfort for the long haul. VW increased the size of the Passat overall and that is obvious when you climb into the back seat, legroom is increased, the entry and exit to the rear seats is much easier than it was before. Easier to keep clean and maintain and should hold up to wear better than cloth. Coming from a 2000 b5 GLS the leatherette was a refreshing change for the base interior. A few had leather seats, otherwise all elatherette. The dealer in question had all the same thing, 2.0T with package 1 + cold weather package. The stock wheel gap seems to be greatly reduced so a stock Passat doesn't look like it's ready for off roading. The design, while a drastic change from the B5 was really clean and the car flowed front to back.

while in the showroom all these bad thought, huffiness and negative thoughts of VW went out the window. At the time I had a 2000 A6 2.7T and was following Audi, saw they were doing the same thing (makes sense) and was up in arms over the change.

I have been following the upcoming 06 pretty closely, I was appalled at the new design in print and felt that VW was going to hurt themselves. While we were looking at the 05's my fiance and I walked to the 06 in the showroom and checked it out. Went to the dealer and found those deals weren't as good as they advertized. I heard an ad for drastic markdowns on 05 Passats. I am a former 2K 1.8T B5 owner, I was shopping used, but couldn't find anything I was happy with.
